Lawn care worker arraigned in murder of Waterford woman

A landscape worker was arraigned Wednesday in the murder of a 54-year-old Waterford woman in her home this past August.

Adonis Drey Wilson, 35, who was recently extradited from Pennsylvania, is charged with open murder and second-degree arson, according to Waterford Police Chief Scott Underwood.

Wilson is accused of killing Stefanie Steinberg in her home at 40 North Lynn Street in late August. Her body was discovered Aug. 27 by firefighters responding to a call about smoke coming from Steinberg's residence where they extinguished a smoldering fire.

Waterford police at the time said they were searching for a man who mowed the lawn at the home several times in the past. They said Wilson was spotted at the house at two different times on the afternoon and evening before the body was found.

Wilson was arrested in Pennsylvania in early September and on Nov. 26 a judge ordered him extradited to Michigan.

Underwood said Wilson was arraigned in front of 51st District Judge Richard Kuhn on Tuesday. Wilson was ordered held in the Oakland County Jail without bond until his next court appearance, a probable cause conference set for Dec. 18.

The Royal Oak Tribune reported Steinberg died of multiple sharp force injuries, according to the Oakland County Medical Examiner’s Office.

The Jewish News reported Steinberg was a graduate of the JVS Women to Work program and was the community and technology coordinator for Temple Emanu-El. She was also an assistant to the executive director of the Andrew Kukes Foundation for Social Anxiety.
